Summer In Southern California On A Budget

Summer in SoCal

Summer time is the perfect time to get away from priorities. Whether you are a student taking off school, or an adult taking some time off for vacation, there is always something to do! Here in Southern California, we take pride in our natural surroundings. Feel like you can’t spend too much money? There are a ton of free things to do.

Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory is one of Southern California’s known treasures. With thousands of guests every day, there are stunning views both day and night. Did we mention the museum is free? What a steal! From the top of Griffith Observatory you will be able to get a beautiful panoramic view of Los Angeles. In the museum you will be able to put your astronomical helmet on and learn about our atmosphere up close. There is also a hiking trail called Griffith Park below the observatory, another great way to catch breathtaking views!

Hollywood Sign

Hollywood Sign

Start your day off by going on a morning hike. The Hollywood Sign is located in the Santa Monica mountains just north of Los Angeles. There are a couple of trails to choose from, though it is recommended to go early so you are not hiking in the heat! The hike may get tiring, so make sure to bring all the hiking essentials such as water, first aid kit, a GPS, etc.

Santa Monica Pier

Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier is great if you would like adventure by the beach. The pier has a ton of events going on everyday. There is even a shopping center not too far from the pier. The pier is complete with carnival rides and games that are fun for the whole family!

LACMA Urban Lights

LACMA Urban Lights

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is located in the heart of Beverly Hills. On the outside of the museum are these unique urban light displays. The lights are a unique center for artist connections and a great photo opp! LACMA is a true iconic center in Los Angeles. The lighting at night is better of course, so experience LACMA in the evening to get the full lighting experience.

Pacific Coast Highway

California Route 1 (also known as the Pacific Coast Highway) is a beautiful way to travel in California. The PCH takes you along the coast from South of San Diego to North of San Francisco. There are many breathtaking stops you can take, including the iconic city of Malibu. This small, beautiful city is known for its beaches, luxurious homes, and hiking spots. Malibu's endless supply of sunsets are perfect for catching great waves or simply catching great food with a friend while basking in all California has to offer.
