Global Genes: A Rare Project - GWED Charity Sponsor Spotlight

Global Genes

Global Genes (GG), also known as "Rare Diseases",  is one out of the five charities Tiffany and Caleb are donating money to for the Greatest Wedding Ever Donated (GWED). The GWED five charities include the Wayfarer Foundation, Think Together, To Write Love on Your Arms, Cystic Fibrosis, and Global Genes. With only around 15% of global genes diseases having a voice in the community, it was important for Tiffany and Caleb to have this be part of their charity donations for the GWED because of its rarity.

What are Global Genes?

Global Genes focuses on eliminating the challenges of global genes disease. This foundation’s main goal is to gather all patients, advocates, and experts to stand together in hope for cures and treatment. Although the rare disease population is small in patients, the global genes disease community collectively is larger than the Cancer and Aids community combined!

The leaders in this non-profit organization are out to support friends or family with rare diseases, the leaders want to ensure that they keep fighting the good fight through awareness, outreach, education, collaborative partnerships, and technology and research.

What it means for it to be “Rare”

In the United States, “global genes” is considered to be rare if it affects fewer than 200,000 persons all together in the global genes disease group. 1 in 10 Americans are affected while 350 million are affected globally which can make up the world’s 3rd most populous country! There are over 7,000 global genes diseases that exist and around 80% are caused by faulty genes.
